Electronic Cigarette Battery Mods (Commercial)

From ECiggyPedia

Jump to: navigation, search

One of the things a lot of people dislike of about their electronic cigarettes after a while is the battery life. Despite lofty claims from the makers they're often flat in an hour or two. To combat this people go one of two routes, make their own device to hold larger batteries or purchase one of the many available on the market.

Often touted as the first one on the market is The Screwdriver, which takes higher capacity batteries delivering the same ~3.7v that the devices themselves give. The important distiction between the battery mods of equal voltage is their mAh (milliampere-hour) rating, the higher the number the longer the battery will send power to the atomizer.

Below are some of the more popular, high profile devices on the market. I'll dedicate a seperate page to of the more popular and more bizarre home made devices (Grenade, Barrel, Kitchen Roll tube).

The Screwdriver

Often touted as the first one on the market is The Screwdriver, which takes higher capacity batteries delivering the same ~3.7v that the devices themselves give. Created in the UK by a person who goes by the name of Trog on the Electronic Cigarette forums. It is currently available in four configurations with either a black or polished metal finish and taking either a classic (801) or mini (901) atomizer. It is a 3.7v device taking the short 18340 batteries.

GG

Created by charismatic Greek, Imeothanasis, from Athens the GG (Golden Greek) is a brush aluminium shell unit designed to use a DSE 901 atomiser. On the latest version the body comes in several optional sections to allow the length to be adjusted to allow different battery configurations. This gives the user the flexibility to choose the voltage they please. The sizes have the nick names GG Nano, GG Grant and GG Giant in order of length, ascending. It also features a locking switch to prevent the switch being pressed down when not in use.

Imeo is also designing a new atomiser with a new system for feeding e-liquid into the device.

Janty Stick

The Janty stick, now in its second incarnation, is a deceptively small device. Shorter that the e-cigs from which its components it uses. Which is because the battery and the atomiser are side by side. It resembles a usb memory stick in appearance, even more so when you see it has a usb-b size socket on the side for charging. The unit also allows you to use it whilst being charged. It is a 3.7v device, taking a single 10440 (AAA size) battery. Unlike a lot of devices it also includes circuitry which is used to protect the battery and control the LED at the end.

Prodigy

The Prodigy is a stylish looking device with exposed metal ends and a black body. It is available in 901, 801 and 510 versions and takes 2 RCR123a batteries. This gives the device a voltage between 4.7v and 5.5v depending on charge. The device can also be configured to take a single 18650 battery for 3.7v vaping.

AdapteveR

The AdapteveR, whilst being a source of pronunciation confusion, is a smaller adaptable device which can take either a 901, 801 or 510 atomizer depending on the adapter used. You can get different body lengths to achieve 6v (2 x CR123), 6v (2 x CR2) or (something else). It boasts to be an entirely mechanical unit in build, meaning nothing is soldered allowing for easy repairs or part replacement.

Copper

The copper gets its name from the plumbing supplies that it is assembled from. If it is as strong as it looks then you could break plate glass with it, then pop it in your mouth for a fix. Rather than a manually operated finger switch it has a unique design whereby you put it in your lips then push the device towards your face to activate it. Also, relatively, unique to it is that is it designed to use an RN4081 atomizer which the maker claims is more able to stand up to higher voltages. However 901, 801 and 510 adapters are available. Powerwise it can take either 2 CR2 3v batteries (to give you 6v) or a single 3.7v 14500.

Bulli

There are two versions of the Bulli spoken about. The Bulli Extreme and the Bulli Slim. Both look similar in design. Not a lot is known about them, as evident with the lack of discussion on blogs and forums. The Bulli extreme takes a single 18650 3.7 volt battery and contains short-circuit protection board and comes in either a 801 or 901 atomizer version. The Bulli slim was a similar feature set, but takes one AAA sized battery (The 10440?) and currently only uses a 901 atomizer.

Bulli EXTREME:

Length(with 901 atomiser) : 170mm
Length(w/out atomiser)  : 115mm
Diameter of shell  : 21mm
Weight(with batt/at)  : 100g
Weight(w/out batt/at)  : 50g

Bulli SLIM:

Length(with atomiser) : 140mm
Length(w/out atomiser): 90mm
Diameter of shell : 14mm
Weight(with batt/at) : 35g
Weight(w/out batt/at) : 20g

Super T

A highly machined device from Super T Manufacturing. Boasts a locking switch and ventilation for the battery should it overheat. Designed to use an 801, for which it offers an adjustable draw. But it also takes a 901 or a 510 without that extra feature. It is a 3.7v device using freely available CR123a/16340 batteries, but an extention ring is available to allow it to run 2 3v CR2 batteries at 6v.

Visit Super T Manufacturing for more info.

VP1 / VP2

The VP1 and VP2 are produced by VaprLife. The VP1 takes the smaller 10440 AAA size battery with a relatively small mAh life compared to larger models. The VP2 takes the larger 3.7v 900mAh 14500 battery, which is a AA sized. Somewhat unique to the world of battery mods it also features LEDs to show then it is working.

Visit VaprLife for more info.

ecig-tools Battery XXL

With a similar look to the screwdriver it also includes an LED. The XXL takes a single 3.6v CR123A battery and from the description on the website it looks like it can take either an 801 or a 901 atomizer with the supplied adapter (most devices aren't supplied with one as standard).

E-cigcity Torch Mod

I've got one of the 3.7v AA 14500 models and it is my device of choice. The body of the unit is unashamedly from an LED powered torch with the atomizer fitting sitting on the top of the torch and sealed with some putty. This allows worry free dripping if you aren't a fan of using carts. There is an AAA sized model which takes 3.7v 10440 batteries. Both are some of the cheapest devices on the market.

Visit E-Cig City for more info.

Zimoshi / Light Vapor

In a unique manner to most cylindrical mods the atomizer fitting is fixed to the side of the battery chamber. The allows the switch to be placed on the top of the unit which some find more comfortable. I've seen versions of this with a rubberized grip which looks like something Rambo would carry. Originally called the Zimoshi and produced by Zimoshi.dom the device is now produced in four colors and distributed by Hard Ass Vapour shop. I think, but am not entirely sure, that it takes 2 CR2 3v batteries with circuitry to regulate a 5v vaping experience from a 901 atomizer.

Chuck and Little Chuck

These two are similar devices following a rigid design. The smaller one taking a 3.7v 16340 battery and the longer a 3.7v 18650 one. They come with the ability to use either a 901, a 801, or a 510 atomizer. They come in the largest variety of finishes I've ever seen and even with custom art work.

Unreleased

XHaler

As yet released device from NHaler, looks like it will be available in various atomizer and battery configurations with a choice of stylish sleeve designs. I'm wondering if this is related to the Chuck/Little Chuck (see elsewhere on this page).

Visit NHaler for more info.

Janty Cameo

The Janty cameo is a new device which is still on the drawing board. There has been a mysterious competition to guess what its special features will be. Looking at the image it looks like it has two slots for batteries. Whether these will be used in parallel or in series in yet to be know.

Since that was written it was reviewed to have two batteries, retractable mouth piece (510 fitting) and a built in mp3 player! The public reception was mixed and the whole featureset is being reconsidered.

Visit Janty World for more info.

Janty Baby J

Looking like an stylish electric toothbrush this is a concept model from Janty. At first touted to take a custom battery built for a long charge, it might also be available with the battery part being a sleeve for your own batteries. In the usual Janty style it features a built in USB and custom electronics controlling the LEDs.

Visit Janty World for more info.

Silver Bullet

This one is SHINEY! It is still in pre-production, but will take a 3.7v 18650 batter and feature a 510 atomizer socket. 901 and 801 adapters, however, will be available.

Visit AltSmoke for more info.

NN10 Firefox / Libertédefumer

This a new one that just popped up. It's French so I don't understand much of the text but it looks mental! Like a space ship or something. It looks like there's some sort of chambler to store the liquid in that will feed the cartridge. It if works then it will be fantastic.

See the french Liberté de Fumer (Freedom from Smoking) for more info.
