Intro
Ploom are a new outfit working out of San Francisco. They're working on an interesting looking model that isn't an electronic cigarette and more like a small hooka device. Their first product will be the ModelOne.
Like a cigarette lighter it is powered by butane and will heat a mix of tobacco, propylene glycol (PG) and vegetable glycerine (VG) and flavourings (which at first read seem to be natural and herbal). They claim this is different to smoking because like an electronic cigarette you aren't burning the tobacco forming tar, ash and smoke. What you'll get is the nicoteen and the vapour from the PG and VG.
The Ploom equivalentof a e-cig cart is their Pod. Which is the vessel contain the actual ingredients. In another departure the ingredients seem to be there in a raw form, the actual tobacco soaked in the PG/VG mix. This will be interesting, because you might get some of the other addictive substances from tobacco from this.
Their website says you should get two hours from one refill of butane. Unsure whether this is casual smoke breaks or continuous, or also how that two hours stacks up claimed to the two hours an e-cig maker would be. i.e. Less or more.
A pod itself will last you just five to ten minutes, so comparable to an actualy cigarette.
When it finally hits the market (was pencilled in for November, but is yet to come) the price is an very reasonable $39.95 for the ModelOne with a pack of 12 Pods being $5.95 (making around the same price as a real cigarette).
